HOUSTON - Esther Elizabeth Carter Ashby, 90, died Tuesday, May 26, 2009, at NMMC in Tupelo. She was born in Chickasaw County to Morris Alma Carter and Mary Hugh Peden Carter on August 17, 1918. She was a self employed beautician for 34 years.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Friendship Presbyterian Church with Rev. Sandra Sisson officiating. Burial will be at Friendship Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Memorial Funeral Home in Houston is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include one daughter, Anita Kate Ashby Banks (Mack) of West Point; three grandchildren, Sonya Anita Blaxton of Woodland, Esther Darlene Melton (Doug) of Williamsburg, Va., and Natalie Lynn Wheeler (Bill) of West Point; seven great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Pettit (Wesley), Ida Koren Vencent (Shane), Richard Casey Johnston II, Amy Nichol Stuart (Jarred), Amber Michelle Blaxton, Victoria Kate Wheeler and Alexander David Wheeler; and five great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Morris Gatman Ashby Jr.; three brothers; one sister; and one great-grandson

Pallbearers will be Jimmy Marion, Larry Duke, Tommy Clements, Frankie Thomas, Russell Thomas, Kirkham Dendy, Bill Wheeler and Wesley Pettit

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Memorial Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Palmer Home, Friendship Presbyterian Church or donation of your choice
