SMITHVILLE, Mo. -- Ida E. "Susie" Failer, 86, Smithville, formerly of Culver, Kan., died Thursday, Sept. 20, 2007.

Mrs. Failer was born Ida E. Hickle on May 16, 1921, in Hutchinson, Kan. She was an USDA inspector for Tony's Pizza Service, Salina, Kan., retiring in 1996. She previously worked for Swift and Co., Salina.

She married Johnie on Nov. 4, 1939, in Warsaw, Mo.

She was preceded in death by her husband; two brothers, Jim Turner and Virgil Turner; and two sisters, Buleah Delaney and Jessee Mae Turner.

Survivors include a son, Richard and wife Pam of Kearney, Mo.; a daughter, Carol Jean of Smithville; three brothers, Charles "Chuck" Kessig of Woorbine, N.J., John Kessig of Salem, Ohio, and Richard Kessig of Damascus, Ohio; three grandchildren, Richard and wife Leslie of Kearney, Janet Worley and husband James of Smithville and John and wife Ramona of Kansas City, Mo.; eight great-grandchildren, Danniell Hough and Rick Failer, both of Kearney, Jacob, Isaac and Emma Worley and Allie Wilson, all of Smithville, and Chance Mc Waters and Savannah Failer, both of Kansas City, Mo.; a great-great-grandchild, Maddison Hough of Kearney; and six cousins, Irene McCormick and Marvin Keating, both of Salina, Howard Morrical of Culver, Harvey Morrical of Assaria, Kan., Joyce Tolson of Abilene, Kan., and Janice Shirey of Colorado.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth, Salina 67401, the Rev. Russell Gotschall officiating. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Minneapolis, Kan.
