Obituary
Gladys M. Rawley
Tonasket
Gladys M. Rawley, age 85, of Tonasket passed away peacefully after a brief bout with cancer, with her family by her side on Sunday, March 19, 2006. She was born on August 20, 1920 in Riverside, Wash. to Edward and Frances Scholz. Gladys was raised in the Okanogan Valley and graduated from Tonasket High School in 1938. That same year she was unanimously chosen Princess Tonasket. She worked at the Liberty Theater in Tonasket where she met her future husband. Gladys attended college in Butte, Mont. She married John Rawley in Deer Lodge, Mont. in March 1940. Together they moved to Oma Ranch, Calif., where John worked as a logger and Gladys cooked for the logging crew. From there they moved to Nespelem and lived there for a short time. They then moved to North Pine Creek where they ranched and raised children. In 1968, they moved to town to the lovely spot by the river. Gladys was an avid reader, a regular bingo player, a crossword puzzle whiz and loved being surrounded by her family, friends, and special puppy, Pepper. She was a member of F.O.E. Auxiliary.
Gladys is survived by seven children, Dennis (Rose) Rawley of Tonasket, Dale Rawley of Oroville, Jack (Alice) Rawley of Tonasket, Judith (Roger) Paine of Spokane, Susan (Ellson) Miller of East Wenatchee, Brenda/Sam (Randy) Riggan of Forks, and Wendy/Charlie (Val) Bitton of Connell.; two stepsons, Wayne (Lois) Rawley of Coulee Dam, and Stan (Elsie) Rawley of Coulee Dam; 20 grandchildren; 33 great—grandchildren; and one great—great—grandchild.
