Providence, a retired farmer, was the son of William H. & Ann (Collis) Anderson. Amazingly, he lived to be 101 years, 7 months, & 28 days!

He married Ruth Ellen Walker in Pittsburg, PA, on June 9, 1860. They had the following children: Perry Patison, Albert S., David P., Laura Ethyl, Lewis, Thomas Jefferson, Charles, Amanda L., James D., John W., & Mary Katherine.

Providence served as a Private in the Civil War on the side of the Union. He enlisted in Company G, 6th Infantry Regiment, West Virginia.

He died at 3:40 p.m. on June 30, 1940, from Old Age & Uremia. Dr. M.C. Gentry was his doctor. His son, Tom, of Blanche, was the informant on his death certificate.

He was buried the following day.

Curtis B. Hough has presented the following information.

At the outbreak of the Civil War Prov enlisted in Company "G" 6th West Virginia Volunteer Infantry Regiment 9-23-1861 at Parkersburg and served as a Private until mustered out at Parkersburg 10-13-1864.

Thereafter the family moved Westward to Mt. Sterling, Ohio, then to Eudora, Saline, and Elk City, Kansas where his parents had migrated. He then moved on to Miami,Oklahoma. After that to Rockbridge & Poplar Bluff, Mo.

He settled at Blanche, Mo. Ozark Co. Both he and his wife are buried at Eaton Cemetery in Ozark Co Mo. He had such strong political feelings that before he died, he requested that he be buried with his head pointing toward the north. He lays head to head at right angles with his wife at Eaton.

The last 30 years of life he lived at Blanche, MO, with his son Tom. Four sons and two daughters survived his death. Perry from Supulpa, Oklahoma, was also at his side.

He was a big man 6 ft. weighing 200 lbs.

100 persons gathered at his home on his 100th birthday on 11-2-1938.
