I was born in Logan, Utah, 13 March 1909, the daughter of William F. King and Iduma Willie King. I was the fourth of ten children born to this couple; three are still living: Owen (Helen) King of Pocatello, Idaho; Grant King of Clinton, Utah; and Mary (Alma) Lawrence of Summit, Utah. Four of my sisters (Clara King, Vera Bindrup, Ina Davies, and Arlene Nielson) and two of my brothers (Ronald King and Max King) have passed away.
I grew up in Buist, Idaho. When I was two and one-half years old I was afflicted with scarlet fever, which affected my ears, and I lost most of my hearing. I attended eight years of schooling in Buist. I tried high school in Logan, but because of poor hearing, this was a failure. We didn't have hearing aids in the early part of my life, so I remained on the farm until I was married. My brother, Ronald, made me acquainted with his friend, Clarence Austin, from Juniper, Idaho. Five months later we were married in the Logan Temple, 29 November 1933.
We farmed in Juniper, Idaho, Salmon, Idaho, and Darby, Montana. We moved to Logan in 1941. It was in Logan that six of our children were born. One daughter, Joan, was born in Montana and died soon after. Our other six children are Jenay (James) Hoffman, Cupertino; Marilyn Smith, Logan, Utah; Mark (Charlene) Austin, Centerville, Utah; David (Pam) Austin, Vernal Utah; Richard (Leslie) Austin, North Logan, Utah; and Kathy (Keith) Nelson, Hyrum, Utah.
My dear husband passed away 2 October 1981. I still linger on, now 97 years old. It's been almost 25 long years, but I feel his presence, so it's not too lonely.
While my husband was still living we went on two trips to New York and two trips to England to gather genealogy. Then Clarence and I served an 18-month mission to the Pennsylvania Philadelphia Mission. It was a delightful experience. I share a strong testimony with my husband of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
I pray daily for my six children, my 35 grandchildren, and my 87 great-grand children, also my many dear relatives and friends. I sincerely hope and pray we can all endure to the end and meet in heaven some day.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon on Tuesday, July 11 at the Logan First Ward Chapel, 89 So. 200 West. The viewings will be held 6:00 to 8:00 PM, Monday, July 10 at Allen-Cranney Mortuary 420 E. 1800 No. in North Logan, and at the Church on Tuesday 10:00 to 11:30 AM prior to the service. Donations can be made to the Perpetual Education fund in lieu of flowers. Burial will be in the Logan City Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family at Allen Mortuaries.
