A funeral service was held for Walter C. Blackmon, Jr. at 2 PM today, May 16, 1979, at LaFayette Heights Baptist Church with interment at Rock Springs Cemetery. Officiating ministers were Rev. Hubert Howard, Rev. John Jones, and Rev. William Choate.
Mr. Blackmon died at the Chambers County Hospital on Tuesday, May 15. He was 53 years old and had been a resident of LaFayette for the past 40 years. Mr. Blackmon was a veteran of WWII and was a former employee of Uniroyal.
He is survived by one son, Walter Gary Blackmon of LaFayette; four sisters, Mrs. Erma Oliver, Mrs. Clara Miller, Mrs. Lucille Allen, all of LaFayette, and Mrs. Ollie Belle Wilkerson of Lanett; one brother, Luther Blackmon of Opelika; and one grandchild.
