My 'brother' Lloyd was the son of James Lee Hammons and Ruth Schooler Hammons Hollis. He was born at the family home at Franklin Corners outside of Yuba City. Six brothers, Jim, Dick, Don, Buck, Arlie and Merle,preceded him in death. He survived by 2 sisters, LaVerda Gruwell of St. Maries, ID. and Barbara Davis of Kernersville, NC. He is survived by his sweet loving wife, Byrl Bevier.
He fathered 10 children by two wives. He and Norma Haynes parented: Robert Lloyd, Michael Duane, Teresa Susan, Twins Andrea Jean and Jeffrey Allen, Scott Eric, Julie Ann, and Lori Ellen. He and Byrl parented James Lee and Joel Patrick. There are numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren from these two unions.
Lloyd as he preferred to be called, enlisted in the US Navy on April 4, 1950 at the age of 17. After completing boot camp in San Diego, CA., he reported aboard the USS Fletcher DDE445 which at that time was was in Buccaneer Bay in Okinawa. The Fletcher was part of what was known as the 'Pineapple Fleet', being home ported at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. While on the Fletcher, he served two tours of duty in Korean waters, participating in three major engagements (battles), including the landings at Inchon, Korea.
In addition the the USS Fletcher, He served on the USS Lewis DE535, the USS Boyd DD544, the USS Richard B. Anderson, the USS Sperry AS13, the USS Prairie AD14, the USS Piedmont AD15, and the USS Dixie AD17. He served two tours in Vietnam. Stateside shore assignments included a tour as an Admiral's Writer. tours in three separate Staff Legal Offices, a tour as a Navy Liaison at the Armed Forces Examining and Entrance Station, Chief Administrator at Naval Recruiting District at Seattle, WA. He retired in April 1974 as Chief Legal Man. He was a 100% service
connected disabled veteran.
He had just realized his dream of buying a home on the OR. coast and buying a 27 ft. Cabin Cruiser. He will be so missed by many.
