William Zed Walker was born 2 Aug 1860 in Philadelphia, the youngest son of Abraham and Ann (Orme) Walker.

The son of cotton spinner, William worked in the woolen mills repairing the looms for many years. Later he worked as a stocker and in cigar shop. His grandchildren told stories of William playing baseball with Connie Mack, but no proof of those stories has been found. I saw photos of him years ago, but the albums have long since disappeared. His grandchildren Shirlee and Craig both recall that he looked a great deal like Mark Twain later in life - white hair and a large, white mustache.

He married Nannie Melvina Heisler on 14 Apr 1882 in the rectory of the Church of the Redemption in Philadelphia.

They had nine known children:
William Leslie (1882-1965)
Eleanor (1885-1965)
Edna (1887-1964)
Frank Orme (1890-1898)
John E. (1892-1966)
William Harry (1894-1961)
Ralph (1898-1899)
Marion Edith Schmitt (1901-1979)
Ruth Schoenleber (1902-1942)
