Waseley "Sailor" Kowalchuk of Forestville died Wednesday at the Nursing Care Center of Bristol. He was 89.
He was born in Chelsea, Mass., and resided in Bristol most of his life. He retired from Bristol Instrument Gears Inc. and then worked for the Burns Security Agency until 1993.
He is survived by his wife, Cora Kowalchuk; a daughter, Rose Kowalchuk of Bristol; four stepsons, Francis Rago of Florida, Mickey Rago of Mississippi, Johnny Rago of California and Fred Genness of Louisiana; two stepdaughters, Fay and Kathy Genness, both of Maine; three brothers, Alex Kowalchuk, Steve Kowalchuk and George Kowalchuk, all of Bristol; and a sister, Ann Cusano of Bristol. His first wife, Frances Wisneski Rago Kowalchuk, died previously.
Services will be Friday at 10 a.m. at Funk Funeral Home, 35 Bellevue Ave., Bristol. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Thomas Cemetery, Bristol. There are no calling hours.
