Verni B. Bitner 77, of 724 W. Washington St., died Friday at 1:45 p.m. at St. Joseph Hospital.

He was born in Delta on June 6, 1897, to John and Josie Townsend Bitner. One Dec. 25, 1920 he married Lena Louise Sauer at Delta. He had farmed for many years in the Cincinnati community.

Surviving are his widow; four sons, Harry of Numa, Marvin and Donald of Centerville and Jerry of Bethel Park, Pa.; one daughter, Mrs. Irma Vincent of Ottumwa; 15 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers and a half brother.

The service was held Sunday at Johnson Funeral Home, with the Rev. Donald Thrash officiating. Burial was in Pleasant Hill Cemetery at Cincinnati.
