Elizabeth Podracky Malecki

January 7, 2007

Elizabeth Podracky Malecki, 93, of Old Forge, died Sunday in the VNA Hospice Unit of Moses Taylor Hospital. Her husband, John "Yano" Malecki, died on April 7, 1963.

Born in Old Forge, daughter of the late Andrew and Elizabeth Podracky, she was educated in the Old Forge School District. Before retiring, she worked for the Maxon Corp. and the Hillcrest Lampshade Factory, Old Forge.

She was a parishioner of St. Michael's Church, Old Forge, and a member of the Moosic Senior Citizens Association and the Old Forge Senior Citizens Association.

She truly enjoyed taking trips to Atlantic City, most recently a few months ago. She would often take time to crochet and craft. Her love for children would not go unnoticed. Her delicious cheesecakes satisfied the tastes of many in her family and neighborhood. She greatly enjoyed visiting with her great-nephew, Ron Taffera, and truly appreciated the assistance of another great-nephew, Carl Taffera.

Surviving are a son, Anthony Malecki, Topeka, Kan.; a daughter, Dorothy Scott, Sayre; eight grandchildren; great grandchildren, nieces and nephews; her primary caregivers, her niece, Marge Germick, and her beloved friends, Irene Pritchyk and Joyce Leyshon.

She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Mildred Shoback, in 2001; two brothers, John and Joseph Podracky; a sister, Mamie Laurenzi; and a grandson, Joseph Scott.

The funeral will be Wednesday at 8:30 a.m. from the Victor M. Ferri Funeral Home, 522 Fallon St., Old Forge, with Mass of Christian Burial at 9 in St. Michael's Church, to be celebrated by the Rev. Joseph M. Brozena, pastor. Interment, Holy Cross Cemetery, Old Forge. Friends may call today, 5 to 9 p.m. Memorials may go to St. Michael's Church, 236 Vine St., Old Forge, 18518.
