"Bernice Amerson, 89, a former resident of Hayti, Clear Lake, Estelline and Watertown, died on Saturday, Sept. 18, 1993 in Minneapolis, MN.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Sept. 23, at Eng's Funeral Home in Clear Lake with reviewal at 2 pm, a memorial service at 3 pm and graveside services immediately following at Lake View Cemetry in Clear Lake.

Bernice S. Casjens was born April 2, 1904 at Allendorf, IA to attie and Ira Casjens. The third of ten children, she grew up in Iowa and near Sisseton and Hayti in south Dakota.
In 1923 she married Clarence O. Amerson of Castlewood, a widower with two small children, Marie and Clarice. A son, Robert, was born while the family lived on a farm near Lake Poinsett. In 1928 they moved to a farm near Estelline, where daughters Elaine, Mavis and Jean were born. In 1934 they moved to a farm in Hidewood Township southwest of Clear Lake. There Richard Terry was born.
After Clarence's death in 1957, Bernice and Terry remained on the farm for a few years, then moved to Clear Lake and later to Minneapolis. She moved to Long Beach, CA, where she lived for several years before returning to live briefly in Estelline and then in Watertown. Since 1979 she had resided in Bloomington, MN.
Throughout her long life, Mrs. Amerson championed the values of education, a strong family network and worldwide travel. She treasured the friendships she made over the years, especially those with the Hidewood Township neighbors. Nothing gave her more pleasure than to have 'get togethers' with family and friends, particularly when singing and instrumental music were performed by everyone.
She is survived by her children, Marie and Eugene Hawley, Estelline; Clarice and Glenn Goodroad, Watertown; Robert and Nancy Amerson, Brewster, Mass.; Elaine and Jim Lewis, Port Hadlock, Wash.; Mavis and Bob Voigt, Minneapolis; Jean and Carleton Brookings, St. Paul; and Richard (Terry) and Marie Amerson, Chimacum, Wash.; 19 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren; and five sisters and a brother, Leona (Cecil) Zwiep, Bellflower, Calif.; Zena Steffenhagen, Long Beach, Calif.; Irene (Bill) Smith, San Angelo, Tex.; Margie Karsemeyer, Glen Ellen, Calif.; Ruby Casjens, La Habra, Calif.; and Bert (Betty) Casjens, Camano Island, Wash.
She was preceded in death by two grandchildren and three brothers, Carl, Christian and Harry Casjens."
