Laura Ellen Goodin Nance was born October 13, 1873 in Lawrence County, Missouri. She is the youngest of seven children born to John Alexander Goodin and Lenora Jane Hammer. Laura married William Monroe Nance Oct 4, 1891 in Lawrence County, MO. By February 1897, Laura and Will had populated their Lawrence County, Missouri home with two sons and a daughter: Virgil, Jessie and Sam. Between February 1897 and May 1898, the family migrated to Indian Territory, along with Will's parents and other family members. Cordia Mae, the fourth and last child born to Will and Laura, was born in Indian Territory on May 2, 1898, near what is now Bixby, Tulsa County, Oklahoma. Laura died there three months later, on August 6, 1898.
