Bernus Battershell, 63, former Crawford county resident, died Wednesday, July 31st, at Decatur Hospital which he had entered Saturday after having a heart attack. Mr Battershell graduated from Robinson High School in 1924 and from the University of Illinois in 1928. He taught school at Shelbyville High School many years and was serving his third term as County Superintendent of Schools, Shelby County, at the time of his death.
Surviving are his wife, Ruby, daughter Barbara of Shelbyville, 2 brothers, Ransom and Cecil Battershell of Robinson, and two sisters, Mrs O M Dart and Mrs Leroy Bond of Oblong, and many nieces and nephews in the area. Services were held at Lockarat Funeral Home in Shelbyville.
