Alma Dorothea Burmeister born 28 November 1886 at Lyons, Iowa. After suffering from cancer for o ver a year, Alma ied on 29 July 1955 at Morris, Minnesota hospital. Alma never married, nevertheless with her sister Alice continued to live on the home farm and became the defacto parents of the Burmeister family after the death of her parents, Henry and Emma. Becuase Alma was the eldest of the family at home she took over the active management of the farm work and showed marked ability as a manager and as a homemaker. Her unselfish spirit and her willingness to give herself for others made her a tower of strength in the family and community. Together with Alice, she provided a home for her unmarried brothers and sisters and the Chokio farm was a continued gathering place of the Burmeister clan. Alma had an unfailing interest in the Chokio Methodist church and served as a faithful Sunday School teacher for many years until her last sickness. Alma was dearly loved, and sorely missed by all that know her. (taken from The Burmeister Story)
