John H Battershell, 54, director of transportation for Community Unit 2 School System, died at 8:35 August 13, 1972 at Crawford Memorial Hospital following a brief illness. Mr Battershell had suffered a stroke 3 weeks ago and had been hospitalized since that time. He was a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church and Masonic Lodge No. 250 AF&AM. Born in Crawford County, he was the son of James and Grace Ellen Sweet Battershell. Mr Battershell is survived by his wife Hilda Sexton Battershell, a son, John Jr of Danville, Indiana, three grandchildren, a brother James of Spokane, Washington, three sisters, Mrs Alva "Doris" Lackey, Robinson, Mrs Jack L "Betty" Baker of Modesto, California and Mrs Harold "Barbara" Barrett of Robinson. Funeral services were held at 2 PM Wednesday at Buchanan Funeral Home with Rev Paul Ott officiating. Burial was in the Robinson New Cemetery. Masonic rites were at 7:30.
