COMPOSER
Son of an Italian immigrant, Rodolfo, began playing musical instruments and composing music at an early age. He became director of the State Band of Sonora, Mexico. He often played in the square for the citizens of Hermosillo.

During the time of the Mexican Revolution Rodolfo was imprisoned and faced execution. This was because he refused to stop playing music after an order to stop, this was deemed too political, causing unrest in the streets and angered some politicians. His piece "Club Verde", of 1901, became a political statement, as the opposition party, whose symbolic color was green, chose it as their hymn. This piece also became known as the unofficial anthem of the State of Sonora. Rodolfo (and his family) escaped to the U.S., living out his remaining years in cities in Arizona, teaching music and performing with his new band there.

Rodolfo wrote hundreds of pieces of music, much of it has been lost. Some of his works include: Blanca, Natalia, Margot, Lolita, Mi Güerita and Catalina.

There is a slight dispute on the date of death, as the family states it was the 7th, but the death certificate shows he died on the 8th.

Baptism church record: legitimate son of Juan Campodónico and Dolores Morales.
10 of December of 1864

Note: Someone added Rodolfo to the baby born Victor Manuel Pio in 1867, to make it appear as if he was Rodolfo, that is a different birth date. (Per church records.) Rodolfo was the first born child of the family. This same wrong information and more was included in a biography written about him, "Champ," which is still referred to by others which contains wrong information. It was published after his death. Also, Wikipedia (won't correct), various articles and published works have some wrong information, including dates, places, and include little information about his life and works.

A new headstone has been added to the original, it also has wrong dates, but part of the birth date was corrected, the birth year. (I believe it was copied from the information I listed here from my 50 years of research.) Please stop taking information and posting/publishing without citing myself and FindAGrave/Ancestry.

Members of the City of Hermosillo asked his wife (cited in the newspaper after his death), and then other family members over the years, if they would transfer his body there, the answer is no. None of the family wants this transfer and we will continue to refuse.
The city erected a monument in a square in Hermosillo. (At present time it now appears in disrepair due to recent road construction.)

Other known children:
Margarita (Campodonico) Montero
Juan Rodolfo Campodonico

Remembering my great grandfather.
