LOIS SMITH STARNES
GRANITE FALLS- Lois Smith Starnes, 89, of Rt. 3, Granite Falls, died Friday at Camelot Retirement Home following a period of declining health.
Born Sept. 25, 1897, in Caldwell County, she was a daughter of the late Harmon and Elizabeth Furches Smith.
She was preceeded in death by her husband, Edd Shuford Starnes; two sisters; two brothers; and a grandson Joel Davis.
Survivors inlcude three sons, Perry Starnes of Hickory, Hugh Starnes of Lenoir, and Paul Starnes of Danville, Va.; four daughters, Mrs. Paul (Alva) Starnes of Naples, Fla., Mrs. Max (Mary Ann) Cody of Durham, and Alline Davis and Pauline Starnes of Granite Falls; a sister, Irene Sherrill of Hickory; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted by the Revs. Paul Hart and Donald Ingle at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Grace Chapel United Methodist Church. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will be at Mackie-High Funeral Home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today.
