Crystal and Amanda Dickinson

Sisters Crystal Michelle Dickinson, 16, and Amanda Lynn Dickinson, 15, died of smoke inhalation Dec. 3, 2000, at their Bremerton residence.

Crystal was born Feb. 27, 1984, in New Orleans. Amanda was born Feb. 25, 1985, in Tacoma. Their parents are Michael and Sally (Kinghammer) Smith.

They attended Bremerton High School.

The sisters enjoyed music, dancing, poetry and photography. They were members of the Christian church.

Thirteen-year-old Bonnie Smith, Crystal and Amanda's younger sister who survived the blaze, attended the tribute, clutching a white teddy bear.

Heather Nye, a 14-year-old cousin of the Dickinsons, said there were just as many people not at the Coffee Oasis Friday night who wanted to be there. Heather read from a letter she wrote to her cousins.

""I know you're looking over us and see how many people love you guys,"" Heather said.

Neighbor AmandaWray, 14, said she also felt like Crystal and Amanda were sisters to her.

""They wouldn't want us moping around like this,"" Amanda Wray said. ""They'd want us to party and have fun and celebrate their lives.""

Several teens either wrote poems or sang favorite songs in honor of the Dickinsons.

Jessica Krohn, 15, called Crystal one of her best friends. Jessica said Crystal had made her promise that if they were still friends when Crystal died, then Jessica would sing of her favorite songs.

Jessica chose ""After the Rain,""by Nelson.

""There, Crystal. Ikept your promise,"" Jessica said afterward. ""And in the memory of Amanda, everybody's mom is OK!""

Almost a decade later, I still remember these girls, they were some of the most amazing people you could ever hope to meet, and their time was over way too soon.
