A son of Anthony (ca. 1760-7/21/1827) and Mary Kershner Hower [Houer] (1767-1827)

1820 - birth of daughter, Mary.

1822 - birth of son, Nelson Luther Hower.

4/11/1824 - birth of daughter, Louisa.

In 1825 Jonathan Hower was placed in indenture to serve as spring keeper to purchase Plot #38 (now 120 Cumberland Street) in Clear Spring, Md. The property measuring 66' breadth and 198' length.

120 Cumberland Street, Clear Spring. Originally part of lot 38, which was sold by Martin Myer in 1825 to Jonathan Hower (Liber HH, Folio 211). In 1877, noted as being owned by F. Pike.

1827 - birth of son, Jonathan A.C. Hower.

1829 - made one of the trustees of the German Reformed Congregation of St. Peter's Church in Clear Spring.

11/4/1836 - See the Hagerstown Mail, Page 2, regarding Hower and the Committee of Vigilence.

11/4/1840 - death of wife, Lydia.

1/17/1859 - birth of daughter, Kate.

In 1860 (on p. 143 of the Clear Spring census) he was listed as a shoemaker in the census, owning $1000 in real estate and $100 personal.

5/23/1861 - death of daughter, Louisa.

8/3/1861 - death of daughter, Kate.

AN ACT to make valid a deed from James R. Cushwa and Jonathan Loose to George Brewer, George Feidt, Jonathan Hower, and Jacob Houck, and also to William T. Peterman, Martin Luther Beard, Jacob Sword and Joel Charles.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the deed from James R. Cushwa and Jonathan Loose, Agents of the German Reformed Congregation of Clearspring, to George Brewer, George Feidt, Jonathan Hower and Jacob Houck, elders, and William T. Peterman, Martin Luther Beard, Jacob Sword and Joel Charles, deacons and members of the Lutheran Vestry of Clearspring, bearing date upon the nineteenth day of June, eighteen hundred and sixty –two, be and the same is made valid and effectual, the same as if said deed had included the names of the members each of the Lutheran Vestry of Clearspring, and had been duly certified to by a Judge of a Court of Record and of Law, and had annexed to such certificates the proper certificate of the Clerk of such Court, in due form of law.

Sec. 2. And be it enacted, That George Brewer, George Feidt, Jonathan Hower and Jacob Houck, elders, and William T. Peterman, Martin Luther Beard, Jacob Sword and Joel Charles, deacons and members of the Lutheran Vestry of Clearspring, and their successors, be and they are hereby declared to be a corporation and body politic, to have, hold, receive, manage and retain all the property, whether real, personal or mixed, now properly belonging to the said Church, whether in law or equity, for the use and benefit of said Church, according to the rules and discipline of said Church.

Sec. 3. And be it enacted, That is shall and may be lawful for the said corporation and their successors, if they deem it proper, to have a common seal for their use, and the same at their will and pleasure to alter, break and make anew, and shall in general have and exercise such rights, privileges, franchises and immunities as by law are incident and necessary to corporations of this kind, and shall be capable in law to sue and be sued to plead and be impleaded answer and be answered unto, defend and be defended, in all or any Courts of Justice, and before any Judges, officers or persons whatsoever.

Sec. 4. And be it enacted, That the said Church shall hereafter be called and known by the name of the St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church of Clearspring, and the said body politic so elected and to be elected by the members of the aforesaid association, shall be known as the Lutheran Vestry of the St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church of Clearspring.

Sec. 5. And be it enacted, That this act shall take effect from the date of its passage.
