Mr. McElhiney was the owner and operator of The South End Ice Cream and Hobby Shop in Waynedale - specializing in all kinds of old time soda shop / menu items as well as a hobby store for the model car and other plastic scale kit enthusiast. I spent a lot of time there in my early teens as his homemade sodas were great and his prices on hobby kits were very reasonable. After a year or so, he moved the hobby store part of the business to his residence. One summer day a couple of my friends and I rode our bikes out to his house to see how he was doing; he was having a sale on his kits and hobby items and he was trying to increase business out of his large garage. That was the last time we saw him. At the time of his passing he was survived by his wife Francis; daughters Diana and Holly ; sons David McElhiney and Larry Martin of Fort Wayne ; and his mother Emma of Nashville, Tennessee; a sister Mrs. Delbert Joynes of Nashville and a brother Doyle of Wayne, Michigan and one grandchild.
