A celebration of Arthur Kelly Mixon’s Life, age 87 of Houston, Texas, will be 2:00pm, Saturday, May 13, 2017 at Little Hope Cemetery in Jasper. Visitation will be from 5:00pm to 8:00pm on Friday, May 12, 2017, at Stringer and Griffin Funeral Home in Jasper.

Kelly died May 8, 2017 at Memorial Herman Hospital in Houston, Texas. A native of Jasper and a former resident of Galveston, he was a longtime Houston resident. An active member of the Southeast Church of Christ, he was a 1947 graduate of Jasper High School. Kelly served as a paratrooper with the U.S. Army from 1951 – 1953 in the Korean conflict. He attended the University of Houston. In 1959, he married the love of his life, Barbara Pinto.

Kelly retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone Marketing after over 43 years of service. “Volunteer” is a word that describes Kelly. Just a few of the services that have been of interest to Kelly are: Optimist International; Toastmasters, Citizens on Patrol, Boys and Girls Harbor, and of course, working with the church. He loved working with the Southeast congregation’s 39’ers group. “Serving God in any capacity” is what Kelly has done for the past 75 years. He is highly esteemed and loved by the Southeast congregation.

Kelly is survived by his son, Michael A. Mixon & wife, Karen, of Puyallup, Washington, and a sister, Juanita Baggett, of Kinder, Louisiana. He is also survived by a host of other family and friends.

Kelly was preceded in death by his wife of over 46 years, Barbara.
