Samuel Elbert Rorabough was born in Scotland County, Missouri to Nathan Henry Rorabough and Susan Jane Crafton Rorabough on August 22, 1879. He married Maude Jane Harris on February 13, 1909 in Cheyenne, Oklahoma.
Sam Rorabough died in Canadian, Texas on Sunday, July 23, 1911 where he had undergone an operation for appendicitis. He was 33 years, 11 months and 1 day old.
On the Tuesday before he died, Sam Rorabough was in Crawford, Oklahoma and looked to be in perfect health, but at the time was suffering from a pain in his side. He was taken to Canadian, Texas on Thursday to Doctors Caylor and Martin, who did all in their power to relieve him of his terrible suffering. He was operated on from 10:00 a.m. Saturday morning right up to midnight that night. The doctors had hope of his recovery. But Rorabough grew worse and worse until at 6 o'clock Sunday morning he passed away.
Mr. Rorabough was one of Crawford's best citizens; one that had no enemies, and one that was ever ready to help in the upbuilding of his country. Mr. Rorabough was a member of the Crawford IOOF Lodge and was a faithful member.
Mr. Rorabough is survived by his wife Maude, his son Albert Rorabaugh, his parents, and three sisters.
The funeral was conducted by the Independent Order of Odd Fellows Lodge on Monday, July 24, 1911 after which his remains were tenderly laid to rest in the Thomas Cemetery*, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma.
