SIKESTON, Mo. — Betty Jean Blankenship, age 78, died Sept. 10, 2009, at the Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Mo.

She was born Jan. 5, 1931, in Paragould, daughter of the late E.E. and Lora Lee (Hyde) Sims. She had been a personnel supervisor for Woolworths, later Grabers and Eubanks-Finney before retiring.

On July 29, 1956, she married Colton Erwin (Junior) Blankenship, who preceded her in death on June 9, 2005.

Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Charles and Krista Underwood of Hot Springs, Rickey and Kathy Blankenship of Matthews, Mo., and Terry and Marla Blankenship of Parma, Mo.; three daughters and one son-in-law, Billie Faye Strope of Paragould, Sissie Wilkerson of Houston, Texas, and Wendy and David Wyatt of Sikeston; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Jimmy E. and Joanne Sims and Jerry M. and Laverne Sims, all of Paragould; one sister, Mary Alice Ferrell of Paragould; 10 grandchildren, Sandi Carroll, Cyndi Holt, Danny Hall, Jennifer Willingham, Michael Wilkerson, Kaci Barden, Lindsey Underwood, Brandon Blankenship, Eric Blankenship, and Kinley Green; 13 great-grandchildren; and her best friend, Joan Peters of Dexter, Mo.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Randal Sims; and one sister, Frances Almeria Sims.

Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. today at Ponder Funeral Home. There will be graveside services at 10 a.m. Monday at Garden of Memories Cemetery. The Rev. William Marshall of Trinity Baptist Church will officiate.

Pallbearers will be Butch Underwood, Ricky Blankenship, Terry Blankenship, Danny hall, Michael Wilkerson, Brandon Blankenship, and Eric Blankenship.
