Francis Edward Hortick, was born May 23, 1916, in Great Falls, Montana to Lorent and Ida (Butterman) Hortick. He died at his home of natural causes November 17, 1996 in Helena, Montana.
Francis graduated from Great Falls High School. He joined the Civilian Conservation Corps and worked as a laborer on conservation projects throughout the state.
During World War II he served in the military and later worked as a cook in several Great Falls restaurants. In 1952 he moved to Helena and married Bonnie Olsen. He retired from the veterans hospital at Fort Harrison in 1982.
He was a member of the Cathedral Parish and Federal Employees Union.
He enjoyed watching sports on television, playing cards, doing puzzles and waiting to win the lottery.
Survivors include his wife Bonnie of Helena; a son Lonnie Hortick of Round Rock, Texas; two daughters, Sue Hanson of Helena and Jeanette Prodgers of Butte; a brother Donald Hortick of Great Falls; and five grandchildren.
Vigil services are 7 p.m. Wednesday at Retz Funeral Home. Funeral Mass is 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Helena Cathedral, followed by burial with military honors at Resurrection Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Cathedral of St. Helena, Westmont Hospice, or His Healing Love, c/o 1525 Valley Forge Road, Helena, MT 59601.
