James Thomas Collins, 80, died Wednesday morning July 20, 1994 at Nash General Hospital in Rocky Mount, NC. He was a native of Halifax County and currently resided at Rt. 3 Box 351 (US HWY 158 West) Roanoke Rapids, NC.

He was born August 25, 1914 to Gerturde Otley Spence and Kenny Monroe Collins in Halifax County. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Ruth Shaw Collins, his childhood sweetheart; and two brothers, Frank Monroe and Paul Clifton Collins and one sister Blanche Collins Washington. He is survived by one sister Lillie Maude Collins Bonsall and husband Joseph Sloan Bonsall Sr. of Philadelphia, PA and three brothers William Sterling, Sidney Cairey Collins and wife Helen Leonard, both of Greensboro, NC, and Lewis Monroe Collins of Roanoke Rapids, NC. and several neices and nephews.

He was a WWII Army Veteran, receiving nine Bronz Stars and one Purple Heart. He retired from the 632 Radar Squadron as a civil service engineer.

Rev John Rowland will officiate the graveside service Friday, July 22 at 11:00am at New Hope United Methodist Church Cemetery where he was a member of the church. Arrangements are being handled by Hockaday Funeral Home in Roanoke Rapids where the family will receive friends and family today from 7:30-9:00pm. (bio by Bobbi Cecil)
