Roy Burt Dies at 84 at Centee
Roy Burt, 84, Estherville resident for more than 50 years, died yesterday about 7 p.m. at the Good Samaritan Center where he and Mrs. Burt had lived for more than a year. His death was attributed to complications of a series of strokes and advanced age. Mr. Burt was forced to retire from business in 1947 because of poor health.

Prior to his retirement he had been co-owner and operator of the Estherville Typewriter Exchange. Mr. Burt had been a director of the Estherville Federal Savings and Loan Association for 38 years.

Born July 17, 1882, in Armstrong Grove Township he was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter H. Burt. He received his education in rural schools of Emmet county, Armstrong High School, and in 1903 he took a buttermaking course at ISU.

He was married Feb. 7, 1906, to Olive R. Irwin in the home of his bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Irwin of Estherville.

After their marriage he worked as a buttermaker in Estherville, Raleigh, Terril, and Armstrong creameries. In 1908, Mr. and Mrs. Burt moved to Rolfe where he operated a variety store until 1911. They returned to Estherville that year, and Mr. Burt operated a feed and seed store here for several years. In the early 1930's he entered partnership with Harold Fox to purchase the Typewriter Exchange.

Mr. Burt was a longtime member of First Methodist Church. He also was a member of the Knights of Pythias.

He is survived by his wife; one daughter, Mrs. Stanley L. (Eloise) Larson; one granddaughter, Mrs. Delbert (Lynn) Brix of Alameda, Calif., one grandson, Roger Burt of Estherville; two great-grandchildren, Andrea and Eric Brix; two sisters, Mrs. Ethel Anderberg of Estherville, and Mr. Anna Christopher of Grand Rapids, Minn.

He was preceded in death by one son, Edward Burt; one grandson, Jim Larsen; his parents and four brothers, Robert, Joe, George, and Allen.

Funeral services are to be Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at Fuhrman Funeral Home, Rev. C. R. Buckwalter officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 3 p.m. today until time of services Sunday.
