He graduated from Clarke High School in Mount Pleasant, Tennessee, where he was very active in various sports. While living in Tennessee, he worked for the Mobile Chemical Company. After moving to Battle Creek, he worked for various companies, which included; Grand Trunk, Interbake Foods and Clark Equipment. He was currently working for Michigan Works, when he became ill.
Charles enjoyed fishing, sports and loved watching cowboy movies. He also loved opening his home to family and friends for good food and lots of fun and laughter. Charles was a very kind and caring person with an enormous amount of patience and love for others. He was one who never hesitated to give a helping hand. He was a member of Emmanuel Covenant Church.
He was previously married to Cora Frierson. To this union, one child, Tina, was born. Charles is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 25 years, Ruby L. Dukes-Armstrong; one daughter, Tina (Darrell) Brooks; 3 grandchildren: Latasha, Ebony, and Charles; 3 great-grandchildren, Naszion, Daveion and D'Ahveion, all of Battle Creek, MI; two brothers, Mr. and Mrs. John Armstrong-Dawson, of Detroit, MI, and Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Armstrong of Battle Creek, MI; 3 sisters, Jessie (James Whitley) Gannaway, of Oklahoma, Natasha (Brent) Kohorst, of Ohio, and Barbara Armstrong, of California; 3 very special brothers, Raymond Dukes, Raynard Dukes and Willie Dukes, all of Battle Creek, MI; a very special sister and his Caretaker, Janice McNichols; sisters-in-law, Anna (Nathaniel) Brown, of Missouri, Savannah Dukes, of Florida and Gloria (Douglas) Scott, of Texas; his mother-in-law, Stella Dukes, of Battle Creek, MI; and a host of very special nieces, nephews and friends.
Services will take place on Wednesday, September 9, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. with a 12:00 noon family hour from the Maranatha Original Church of God, 400 Waubascon Rd, with Rev. Micheal Gulley, Officiating.
