The son of Charles and Barbara Fiedler, William served in the United States military during World War I.

William married Ruth Inman on 16 Jun 1920 in Batchtown, Calhoun County, Illinois. They did not have any children. He was a civil engineer.

William died at Jersey Community Hospital 9 days after his 85th birthday. He was survived by his wife, Ruth; 4 brothers, Raus of Hardin, Illinois, Oren of Clarksville, Missouri, Karl "Bud" of Godfrey, Illinois, and Oliver of California; and 4 sisters, Rose Fiedler of Hardin, Illinois, Nelle Linstroth of Collinsville, Illinois, Mae England of St. Louis, Missouri, and Pearl Bishop of LaCrosse, Wisconsin.

Visitation was held after 4 p.m. on 26 Apr 1978 at Hanks Funeral Home in Hardin. Masonic services took place there at 8 p.m. Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. the following afternoon at the United Methodist Church of Batchtown. Graveside services were performed by the American Legion.

William's wife, Ruth, passed away in 1987 and was buried next to him.
