Mary Minerva (Dunaway) Anderson, 97, of Sullivan, IL (formerly of Strasburg) passed away at 1:00a.m. January 31, 2014.

Mary was born on January 20, 1917 the daughter of Carl and Mary Gertrude Simmons Dunaway.

She married Charles Anderson on September 14, 1934 and he preceded her in death January 29, 1994.

Mary worked for the Stewardson-Strasburg School District several years before retirement.Embroidery, crocheting, and quilting occupied her retirement years.She was a member of the Shelbyville VFW, and a 50-year member of the Strasburg American Legion Auxiliary receiving her 50-year pin in 2013.In 1999, Mary was selected as the American Legion Auxiliary's member of the year for the State of Illinois.Mary sewed lap blankets and other items to donate to veterans in the hospital in Danville, Illinois.She was a "sports Mom" before the term became popular following kids to track meets, baseball, basketball, and fast pitch softball games.

Surviving Mary are her sons Roger (Virginia) of Sigel, Van (Eva) of Arcola, Ted (Shirley) of Sullivan, James (Marjorie) of Mattoon, Dana (Marcie) of Shumway; daughters Linda (B. R.) Shaw of Hot Springs, Arkansas and Karen of Decatur; 16 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, and 8 great great grandchildren; brother Jake (partner Patricia Herpstreith) of Owaneco and sister Charlotte (partner Jerry McMurray) Blancett of Decatur, brother-in-law Leo Wright of Beecher City, sister-in-law Mary Dunaway of Shelbyville, and sister-in-law Penny Gibison of Missouri.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, husband Charles, daughter Carol, granddaughter Robin Anderson Brown, great granddaughter Katie Anderson, grandson-in-law Gregg Johnston; brothers Phon Evans and wife Verna, James and wife Ruth, William and wife Irene, and John; sisters Julia Gibison and husband Buddy, Glapha Wright, and sister-in-law Odessa Dunaway.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday in Lockart-Green Funeral Home, Cowden, IL.Visitation will be one hour before the service with burial in Mound Cemetery Cowden, IL.Memorials may be made to Mound Cemetery.
