Matilda Zessin Funeral Was Held Saturday

Funeral services for Mrs. William H. (Mitilda) Zessin were held Saturday morning, August 25, 1973 at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Madison.

The Rev. Richard W. Pingel officiated. Mrs. William Blank as the soloist with Clemens Seene as the organist. Burial was in Crown Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were nephews Ervin Johnson of Battle Creek, Clarence Gugat of Norfolk and Delvin White and Arthur Zessin both of Madison and grandsons, Larry Zessin of Grand Island and Duane Zessin of Madison.

Matilda Phoebe Zessin, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank White Sr., was born on a farm southwest of Madison in the Green Garden Precinct on April 23, 1894. She died at a Norfolk hospital August 21, 1973 after an extended illness. She was 79 years of age. She grew up on the farm and attended school at District 35. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church in Green Garden.

On April 17, 1912, she was united in marriage to William H. Zessin at St. John Lutheran Church. She and her husband lived on a farm southwest of Madison for 22 years, moving to Madison in 1934 to make their home where they have since resided.

Mrs. Zessin is survived by her husband, William; one daughter, Mrs. Milde Oshsner; two sons, Ruben and Willard, both of Madison; five grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Arthur (Cora) Janteen of Earlville, N.Y. and Mrs. Emma Streit of Madison; four brothers, Philip White and Frank P White, both of Madison, Howard White of San Diego, Calif., and Alfred White of Morrisville, N.Y. She was preceded in death by three sisters and four brothers.
