New Hampshire Governor. Born in Manchester, he was Governor from 1871 to 1872 and from 1874 to 1875. Prior to being Governor, he was mayor of Manchester in 1861, 1867, 1869 to 1870 and in 1874. Educated as a civil engineer, he managed the City of Manchester waterworks and was an engineer on several railroads. A prominent freemason, he returned to his banking profession after his Governorship ended and died in Manchester.
