Alex G. Angelos, a Freeport resident and longtime restaurant operator since he came to the United States in 1921, died this morning (March 4, 1977) in Brookwood Convalescent Nursing Home in Des Plaines, where he was a patient. (This obituary was cut from a newspaper, and there is no death date visible. Oakland Cemetery personnel told me his burial date was March 7, 1977. I subsequently found his date of death to have been March 4, 1977.) He was born in Greece November 21, 1894, the son of Mr. and Mrs. George Angelos. He came to the United States in 1921.

Upon coming to Freeport he bought a café in the Second National Bank Building, 26 W. Stephenson Street. It was hailed as a place for good food until it burned in 1955. He was also active in the real estate business. A brother, Theodore, was another Freeport restaurateur. He was a member of the Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and one sister.

Funeral service will be Monday at 1 p.m. at Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church with the Rev. Theoharis Theoharis, pastor of the church, officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery. Friends may call Sunday from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Burke Tubbs Funeral Home in Freeport. A prayer service will be conducted at 7 p.m.
