Zenobia Elder Cone passed away September 4, 2009. She was born January 26, l9l4 to Edna ViVera and Walter Lee Elder. She attended Konawa schools, graduating fromKonawa High School as valedictorian in 1931. She attended Santa Ana Junior College, Santa Ana, California, graduating in 1933. She returned to Ada, Oklahoma, where she attended East Central State Teachers College in 1933 and 1934.

For a time she was employed as a secretary by the Soil Conservation Service in Konawa and Oklahoma City. In l941 she married Vernon L. Cone. They made their home in Long Beach, California. During the war years, she was employed by Western Pipe and Steel Shipbuilding as secretary to the Director of Selective Service. This company built the Liberty ships during the war.

Following her husband's death, she moved to Oklahoma City, where she was employed by the Indian Health Service Regional office in financial management cost accounting until her retirement in 1978.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband. She was a longtime member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church and a charter member of Epworth Villa Retirement Facility, where she resided until her death.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to FREE TO LIVE, INC., P.O. Box 139972, Edmond, Oklahoma 73013, or American Cancer Society , 4323 N.W. 63rd, Suite 110, Oklahoma City, OK 73115.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, September 9, 2009, at Hahn-Cook/Street & Draper Chapel, 6600 Broadway Extension, Oklahoma City. A graveside service will be at 3 p.m. at the Konawa Cemetery.
