Deceased Name: VIRGINIA PERKINS YEAMAN, 95, DIES
In their almost 65 years together, Virginia Perkins Yeaman and her husband, Tom, held a special affection for the University of Richmond, where they had met and courted.

She, a 1929 Westhampton College graduate, and he, a graduate of Richmond College in 1930, were the second couple to be married in the Cannon Memorial Chapel at UR in 1932.

Mrs. Yeaman, a former high school teacher and benefactor of the university, died Wednesday at age 95.

In the fall of 1929, Mrs. Yeaman began a teaching career at the former Chester High School. For about a decade after that, she taught advanced math, biology and French at Thomas Jefferson, John Marshall, St. Catherine's and Collegiate schools.

Mrs. Yeaman later concentrated her education work through the PTA, working as a lobbyist for the Virginia PTA through three General Assembly sessions and serving as president of the Richmond Federation of PTAs in 1960.

She remained active in Westhampton alumni affairs for much of her life, and with her husband established a Westhampton College scholarship fund to celebrate their golden wedding anniversary.

"The endowment has grown to where at least three young ladies now receive funds each year," said her son, Thomas C. Yeaman Jr.

About 15 years ago, the Yeamans made a gift to renovate the Cannon Memorial Chapel's Groom's Room, which was dedicated in their honor.

A longtime member of Westhampton Baptist Church, Mrs. Yeaman also enjoyed painting and was member of the Tuckahoe Artists Association, through which she occasionally exhibited her still-lifes and the landscapes she and her husband visited in their many travels.

Mr. Yeaman died in 1997.

In addition to her son, survivors include a daughter, Ann Carol Yeaman Malcolm, of Sunbury, Pa.; a sister, Buena Myers, of Woodbury, Minn.; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Parham Chapel of Woody Funeral Home. Burial will be in Westhampton Memorial Park.
