Actor. Born Bowen Charlton Tufts in Boston, Massachusetts, he was pursuing a career in opera when he started performing in musicals on Broadway stages in the late 1930s. He went to Hollywood in 1942, was signed to Paramount Pictures and made his film debut in "Proudly We Hail" (1943). He appeared in supporting roles in over 20 films such as "Swell Guy" (1946), "Easy Living" (1949), "Glory at Sea" (1952), "Seven Year Itch" (1955) and "Town Tamer" (1965). His television credits included "The Virginian", "Chrysler Theatre", "The Loner" and "Land's End". He died at age 58 in Santa Monica, California.
