Married Isabella Smith who was born November 3, 1783, in York County, South Carolina. Daughter of James Smith and Mary Henry. James parents are believed to be Richard Hope and Elizabeth Harbison. It has been said that James Hope was an Irishman, whether born in this country or not, is not known. He spoke with a decided Irish accent. The census of 1850 lists children of this couple as having been born in Tennessee. He was a Justice of the Peace in Pike County in the 1820s. He is listed as the head of family in the 1816 census for Pike County, Mississippi. The Hope family lived on Bala Chitto Creek in Pike County, Mississippi. They are buried in Tangipahoa Parish, Louisiana. It could be that he died in this location with it being right on the Mississippi/Louisiana state line.

6. Margaret Hope, born August 5, 1815, died September 1, 1891 at home 1.5 miles east of Osyka, Pike County, Mississippi, married Isham E. Varnado, buried I. H. Varnado Cemetery, 1 mile NE of Osyka, Pike County, Mississippi
