Paul Victor Pike, 73, well-known Caruthersville businessman, died at Pemiscot County Memorial Hospital about noon last Thursday, April 14, as the result of injuries suffered while at work the previous Monday afternoon.
Mr. Pike, who had been in the house and building moving business for more than forty years, had direced the moving of a house near the R.E.A. building about six miles west of Hayti on Highway 84. As the structure was being lovered to its new site, one of the jacks slipped (or the house shifted in the high wind blowing that day), pinning him underneath.
He suffered a severe brain injury, fractured leg and other injuries, which proved fatal.
Born in Uniontown, Kentucky, Mr. Pike moved to Missouri in 1903 and had lived in Caruthersville for many years and had only recently completed construction of a new home on Playground road near Route U. He was a member of Sacred Heart Church and of the Knights of Columbus.
He leaves his wife, Mrs. Alice Kiereck Pike, a son, David Paul Pike, and seven grandchildren, all of this city; a sister, Miss Sallie Pike of Caruthersville.
Also five brothers, M.L. Pike, Hayti, Gilbert Pike, Rockwood, Michigan, Noel Pike , Charleston, Leonard Pike, Rte. 2, Steele and Dervey Pike, Caruthersville.
Requiem high mass was said at nine o'clock, Monday morning, with the Rev. John Baker conducting the service. Burial was in Little Prairie Cemetery, with LaForge Undertaking Company service.
