Genevieve E. (Oburn) Jeffrey, 92, of Indianapolis, died Saturday, Sept. 16, 2006 at American Village in Indianapolis.


Born May 12, 1914 in Indianapolis, she was the daughter of Charles and Gertrude (Tiemier) Oburn, both deceased. She married Carl Jeffrey Aug. 10, 1940; he preceded her in death in 1997.

Mrs. Jeffrey was a 1931 graduate of Arsenal Technical High School in Indianapolis. She was a 1938 graduate of the Wishard School of Nursing. She worked as a R.N. in Pasadena, Calif. until accepting the position of superintendent of nursing at Rush Memorial Hospital in 1938. In addition to working at RMH, she served as the head of nursing and administrator at Jackson Nursing Home, as a local visiting nurse, as a school nurse for Rushville schools and as head of nursing at Miller's Merry Manor. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Rushville for more than 60 years. She was also a member of Psi Iota Xi Sorority and was a volunteer for the American Red Cross.

Survivors include three sons, John Jeffrey (and wife Elizabeth) of Redford, Mich., Joseph C Jeffrey (and wife Dot) of Indianapolis and David Jeffrey (and wife Marie) of Douglas, Ga.; one sister, Evelyn Kelly of Martinsville; four grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Fairview Cemetery in Rush County with the Rev. Dena Vittorio officiating. Visitation will be after 1:15 p.m. Thursday at Moster & Cox Mortuary in Rushville
