He graduated from Lakeview High School in 1940. He married his wife Gertude in 1944. In 1983, he retired as a car inspector from Grand Trunk Western Railroad, where he was employed for 42 years. He served during WWII in the U.S. Navy as a Naval Aviator and after the war served in the U.S. Naval Reserve until 1956. Most of his life he had also operated his farm in Newton Township MI. He was an active member of the farming community and former member of the Home Grange. He enjoyed making rugs, riding his quad, traveling, farming and spending time with his family.
