Mrs. Button attended Pelham Memorial High School in New York. She was a graduate of Syracuse University in 1933 and Columbia University. She was an English teacher in Schaghticoke, New York. Upon moving to Kendallville in 1958, she was an English teacher for the East Noble School Corporation at the Avilla Middle School for 14 years.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Kendallvile, where she served as an elder, deacon and president of the women's association. She was also a member of the Calvin Circle, Alpha Phi Sorority at Syracuse University, Eta Phi Epsilon, Noble County Retired Teachers Association, the Kendallville Day Care Board and local Bridge clubs.
She was born September 20, 1912, in Meriden, Connecticut, to Charles F. and Ada (Coe) Rockwell. On August 28, 1939, in New Rochelle, New York, she married Irving C. Button. He preceded her in death on February 19, 1996.
Surviving are a son, David R. Button of Kendallville; a niece, Sally Wade of Santa Monica, California; caregivers, Lois Strunk, Wanda Amburgey, Robin Wylie, and Jackie Rowlison; and special friends of the family, Robert and Dorothy Sorensen of Kendallville.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, William F. Coe and Thomas B. Coe.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, March 31, 2009, at 2 p.m. inYoung Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville, with Rev. Stan Kessler officiating. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery, Kendallville at a later date.
Calling will be Monday, March 30, 2009, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home and one half hour prior to the service on Tuesday.
