Henry VanBuren Rankin, my 2d great uncle - was the 9th child of 12 born to William Milton Rankin (1842-1897) and Mary Jane Moore (1846-1914) -- (my gg-grandparents) and was born 24 April 1884 in Tennessee.
Henry married Amanda "Mandy" Azalea McCoy (1888-1983) in about 1904 at the age of 20 and had 8 children:
(1) Earnest Leonard Rankin (1906-1982);
(2) Melvin Henry Rankin (1907-1970);
(3) Ester Marie Rankin Duncan Harness (1910-2000);
(4) Dora Rankin Jones (1916-1936);
(5) Eva Loretta Rankin Ruffner Jones (1919-2011);
(6) William M. Rankin (1923-2008);
(7) Ben (NMN) Rankin (1927-2021); and
(8) Claude Dean Rankin (1930-?).

Henry worked as a coal miner in Tennessee and died of lung cancer at the age of 67 on 28 November 1951 at the Oakridge Hospital, Oakridge, Tennessee.

Henry's obituary appeared in the Chattanooga Times Chattanooga, Tennessee, 30 November 1951, page 9, column 8:

RANKIN--Henry V., 68, of Oliver Springs, Tenn., Route 1, died Wednesday morning at the Oak Ridge Hospital. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Amanda Rankin; five sons, Ernest, Melvin, William, Ben and Claude; two daughters, Mrs. Laford Harness and Mrs. Evial Ruffner; two sisters, Mrs. A. C. Monnell, Mrs. W. V. Morrow, Fairfield, Ala.; brother, Hugh Rankin, Sr., Whitwell, Tenn. Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Friday from Petros Baptist church by the Rev. Roscoe Carter, Interment in Petros Cemetery, Schubert of Wartburg in charge.
