A Story Worth Remembering.

Hattie Fant was a great-niece of Mary Bishop Allen and this happened once when she visited the Allen farm as a young girl.
The kitchen or "cook room" as it was called in those days was separated from the house by a plank walkway; there was no roof over this. She and some of the other children were playing and under the cook room at one of the corner rock pillars found a guinea's nest full of eggs. She ran and told Aunt Mary about this who in turn gave her a big spoon to use in getting the eggs from the nest. That way the human scent would not be left there. Also she was instructed to leave two eggs, as a guinea could count up to two, so said Aunt Mary. In robbing the nest it was important to do that so the guinea hen would continue to lay there.
