LARRY AREINGDALE passed away July 31, 2009 at his residence in Bowie. He lived an abundant life of 77 years. Larry was born Sept. 26, 1931 in Ottumwa, Iowa and moved to Bowie with his family when he was 14 years old. In Bowie he loved playing football, basketball, baseball and running track. Years later, when two of his sons played sports at Bowie High School, he proudly wore his letterman sweater to all their games.
He supported and loved Bowie High School. Upon graduation from high school Larry joined the U.S. Navy and served from 1951-1955 aboard the USS Renville during the Korean Conflict. Larry loved his country and his three sons. After retiring from the public school system in Texas, Larry returned to Cochise County in the 1980's and has resided there since. In retirement, Larry was able to pursue his passion for acting and had been in several movies such a "Young Guns II", "Tombstone" and "Lightning Jack". Larry also loved exploring the deserts and mountains of southeast AZ and would be seen frequently out in the desert with his faithful companion and dog "Big Mac". Big Mac was found dead alongside his faithful master. Larry was preceded in death by his parents Richard Rowland and Marion Christine Areingdale and an older brother Dean Areingdale. Left to cherish his memory are his three loving sons Steve Areingdale of Death Valley, CA, Rick Areingdale of Arlington, TX, Mike Areingdale and his wife Kayla of Alexandria, LA. Also surviving are two sisters Joe Ellen W. Pizzo of Tucson, AZ and Ramona Fousel of Bristol, OK; one brother David Areingdale of Laytonville, Ca; seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren. A Memorial Mass was held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Bowie, on Wednesday, August 5th at 10:00 a.m.
