Sarah A. Watson
Fayetteville Democrat
Thursday, March 6, 1902
Mrs. Sarah A. Watson, widow of the late William A. Watson, of Cane Hill, breathed her last at five o'clock Monday morning, March 4, 1902, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Fannie Wooddy, of Prairie Grove. Mrs. Watson, who was Miss Sarah Howell, was born in Polk County in 1834 and was married to Mr. W. A. Watson, of this city, in 1852. After her marriage, she lived here until the close of the war, when the family moved to Cane Hill, where they resided until the death of Mr. Watson, which occurred a year ago, last June.
Strong in character and immutable in her convictions, she was, withal, the kindest and gentlest of women. Prosperity and adversity were taken with equal calmness; no change of fortune ever effected her unwavering devotion to duty or blighted the sweetness of her disposition. She was Christian from girlhood, and a constant worshiper in the house of God. Her whole life was an unspoken sermon, and all who came within the radius of her influence were impressed with the power of true religion. Five sons and four daughters survive her and while mourning the loss of a most faithful and devoted mother, are yet consoled in the thought that their irreparable loss is her eternal gain. At ten o' clock, tomorrow morning the funeral services will be conducted at the Central Methodist Church, by Rev. E. R. Steele, and the remains will be laid to rest on East Mountain, to await a better resurrection.
