He was deployed with the UK contingent of NATO forces in Afghanistan.

Fusilier Carter and Fusilier Simon Annis were trying to carry their injured section commander, Lance Corporal James Fullarton, to safety when a second roadside bomb killed all three. They had been on a foot patrol near Sangin in Helmand province.

Aged 18, from Nuneaton, Warwickshire. Fus. Carter joined the Army in 2007 and after completing his training he was immediately deployed to Afghanistan on his first tour. Fusilier Carter quickly and quietly proved himself to be a respected member of A Company. He was a keen cricketer, rugby player, footballer and Coventry City FC supporter.

He is survived by his parents Mick and Denise, brothers Lee and Sam, and many other relatives and friends.

The funeral, with full military honours, took place on September 3, 2009 at Our Lady of the Angels Roman Catholic Church – just half a mile from Fus Carter's home and next door to his first school.
