George W. Curtis was born in Schyler county, Ill., Oct 5th, 1842, and was 61 years, 5 months and 18 days old at the time of his death.
When three years old age he came with his parents to Appanoose county, where he has resided ever since.
At the age of 20 years he enlisted with the 6th Kansas cavalry and served for the term of three years.
He was united in marriage with Miss Ellen Hamlin in August, 1865. To this union was born one child which died in infancy. Mrs. Ellen Curtis departed this life July, 1872.
He was again united in marriage to Anna E. Talkington, June 18, 1873, and two children by this union survive him, John H. Curtis and Mrs. Ollie Thompson.
Annie E. Curtis departed this life May 30, 1880. He was again united in marriage to Rachel McAninch, Feb. 27th, 1890, and to this union two children were born, Mary and Joe.
Rachel Curtis departed this life Feb. 28th, 1895. On March 12, 1899 he was united in marriage to Miss Mattie Miller. She and the four children survive him and were all present at the time of his death.
He was stricken with parlysis Nov. 25th, 1903. He gradually grew weaker till death relieved him of all suffering.
Just before his death he told them he had read the scripture and was prepared to go and he knew God was ready to forgive at any and all times, and he was glad he would soon be at rest. After a brief service conducted by Rev. Geo. W. Swan, his body was laid to rest in the Fenton cemetery, near Milledgeville, March 24th, 1904.
