HIGHLAND/WAUKESHA - Ann C. Blau, age 75, of Highland, formerly of Waukesha, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, June 1, 2006. The former Ann McCarthy was born on Jan. 31, 1931, in Highland Township, to George M. and Della C. (Imhoff) McCarthy. Following graduation from Highland High School, she earned her B.S. in Elementary Education from UW-Platteville. She taught for more than 40 years in both public and private schools, including the last 25 years in the Waukesha area.

She retired to Highland in 1999. Ann married Gerald Blau of Plain on Aug. 5, 1961, at St. Luke's Catholic Church in Plain. He preceded her in death on March 31, 1982. Ann was a member of St. William Catholic Church while in Waukesha and St. Anthony and Philip Parish in Highland. Ann's greatest joy was time spent with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren. She also enjoyed playing cards, baking, and growing flowers.

Ann is survived by two daughters; five grandchildren; three sisters, Patricia McCarthy of Highland, Eileen McCarthy of Highland, and Bernadine Murvar of Brookfield; three brothers, Cletus (Virginia) McCarthy of Highland, Michael (Betty) McCarthy of Muscoda, and Harold (Mel) McCarthy of Chilton; five sisters-in-law, Catherine (Tony) Hausner of Spring Green, Pat Blau of Plain, Marge Reeson of Mount Horeb, Betty Zins of Milwaukee, and Sister Rita Blau of St. Louis, Mo.; as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Susan Blau; and a brother, George McCarthy Jr.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 5, 2006, at ST. PHILIP'S CATHOLIC CHURCH in Highland with Father Kenneth J. Frisch officiating. Friends may call from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Sunday, June 4, 2006, at the MCGUIRE-PETERSON-HOUCK FUNERAL HOME, Highland, and at the church on Monday after 10 a.m. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Waukesha at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 6, 2006.
