Joseph was born at Fair Gardens, Sevier county, Tennessee. He was married on his birthday (08 Sep 1882) in Lamapasas, Texas, to Margaret Ann Cox. He was named Joseph for his maternal grandfather, Joseph Shrader.

Mr. & Mrs. Fox Honored On 50th Wedding Anniversary

Mr. & Mrs. J. C. Fox celebrated their Golden wedding anniversary and Mr. Fox's 76th birthday, Thursday evening, September 8, at a 6 o'clock dinner at their home east of Pauls Valley.

The hostesses were Mrs. W. E. Goodson, a daughter; Mrs. W. W. Fox, a daughter-in-law; and Mrs. J. T. Hargis of Seminole, a daughter.

The gold color scheme was beautifully carried out through the meal and decorations. The centerpiece was composed of roses and garden flowers. Both daughters, Mrs. Hargis and Mrs. Goodson, each presented their parents with a beautiful anniversary cake. Mrs. J. T. Hargis, the eldest daughter, presented her father a large angel food birthday cake decorated in gold and bearing 76 candles. Other beautiful cakes were presented by Mrs. W. W. Fox and a granddaughter, Mrs. Rube Williams.

The long table in the dining room of the Fox home was filled with many palatable dishes.

Mr. & Mrs. J. C. Fox came to the Indian Territory in 1901. They have five children living, all being present except the eldest son, E. L. Fox of Roff. Those present were: Mr. & Mrs. W. E. Goodson and sons Ernest and Joe; Mr. & Mrs. W. W. Fox & daughter Virginia; Tipton Fox; Mr. & Mrs. Rube Williams & daughter Annie Bell; Mr. & Mrs. J. T. Hargis & sons, Charles & Leslie & daughters Cora & Mildred of Seminole; Clarence Hargis & son John of Seminole; Verna Lou McCluskey of Seminole; the 3 great-grandchildren were: Annie Bell Williams of Pauls Valley, John Hargis & Verna Lou McCluskey of Seminole.

After dinner, Mr. & Mrs. Fox received many beautiful and useful gifts as well as some humorous ones which they enjoyed.
