Thomas R. Conner enlisted in the U.S. Army in Co K, 33rd Iowa Infantry Reg on 13 Aug 1862 in Mahaska Co, Iowa. He was promoted to 1st Lt. on 04 Mar 1863. Thomas was killed at the Battle of Jenkins' Ferry which was fought April 30, 1864, at the Saline River in Grant County, Arkansas.
